Kelowna, BC - September 12, 2024 – On September 9, the Kelowna Flying Club presented Kelowna International Airport (YLW) with two cheques totaling $2,103 in support of the YLW Scholarship Fund.

The club accepted donations for the fund at its inaugural Wings & Wheels event held on Saturday, August 24 at the Kelowna International Airport. The event featured over 80 unique cars and 25 aircraft on display, drawing in numerous members of the community for a day of excitement and aviation enthusiasm.

In 2022, YLW proudly established the Scholarship Fund to support aviation and aerospace students who are currently conducting their studies in the Okanagan.

Kent Hardisty, President of the Kelowna Flying Club, expressed his gratitude towards the community and participants who made the event a success. "We're thrilled with the turnout and support we received for Wings and Wheels. The enthusiasm and generosity of our community are truly commendable. This donation to the YLW Scholarship Fund represents our collective commitment to nurturing the future of aviation in our region."

"We are incredibly grateful for the support from the Kelowna Flying Club and the community,” said Phillip Elchitz, YLW Director, Operations & Innovation. “The funds raised for the YLW Scholarship Fund supports aspiring aviation professionals by removing financial barriers associated with required training and education."

Wings and Wheels was a free community event that not only celebrated the passion for aviation and automobiles but also demonstrated the generous spirit of the Kelowna community. To learn more about the YLW Scholarship Fund, please visit ylw.kelowna.ca/scholarship.
